Water lilies are one of the oldest flowering plants ancestrally. Within them, you can visibly see the transition from sepals (leaves) to petals to stamen. In this one plant, we see each modification on display very distinctly, holding the knowledge of what came before to what is coming next. Birth is a time of transition and change. My job as a birth worker is to honor this transition and each distinct stage with you as you enter into what is to come.

Welcome!

My name is Jenn and I believe that birth is a normal, sacred process and that your body has the wisdom to guide you through it. It truly takes a village to birth and raise children in our world and we all deserve access to that kind of support. As your birth and postpartum companion, I am dedicated to providing you with the informational, physical, emotional and spiritual support to embrace this new change for you and your growing family. I would be honored and humbled to be able to play a small part in your journey.

Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth.

What is a doula?

The word doula comes from a Greek word meaning “woman who serves”. In our times it has been adapted to mean someone who gives emotional, physical and informational support to a birthing person and their partner/family before, during, and after labor. This is not a new concept, in many cultures women/pregnant people have been supported by others, often in their families,  in this way for centuries. I strongly believe that when a birthing person feels supported, amazing things can happen. They find their inner strength, confidence, and voice as a new parent.

Birth Support

During birth, you can count on my support to be a reassuring and constant presence throughout your labor, help you communicate with providers so that you can make informed decisions, and make suggestions to progress labor, aid with relaxation and other comfort measures. As your birth support, I will be the only professional who will be with you your entire labor and whose sole purpose and responsibility is to you as the person giving birth.

Postpartum Support

The essence of postpartum is support is “mothering the mother” and providing support to the whole family as you welcome your new little one into your lives. I will provide information and support with feeding, basic infant care, healing & self care strategies and more to help you find your rhythm and confidence in your new roles.

Lactation Support

Breastfeeding/chestfeeding can be one of the most rewarding experiences as a new parent, however it can also come with its fair share of challenges. If breastfeeding is one of your goals, I can provide one on one support to ensure a good latch, troubleshoot any issues and ensure you develop a healthy nursing relationship with your child. I can also provide guidance around pumping, bottle feeding and formula feeding.
